Progress of the QTS Scheme

There is a 26% increase in the number of QTS organisations and outlets compared with last year.
In April 2000, the then Hong Kong Tourist Association (now the Hong Kong Tourism Board) appointed Better Business and Tourism Services (BBTS) as the administrator of the Quality Tourism Services (QTS) Scheme.

In the 20 months to the end of 2001, a total of 1,097 organisations have been recruited, representing 3,518 outlets. Of these, 682 organisations representing 2,394 outlets were from the Retail category, and 415 organisations representing 1,124 outlets were from the Restaurant category.

The role of Scheme Administrator includes acting as the QTS Secretariat. This entails BBTS staff holding regular bi-weekly meetings with the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) to review the process of QTS assessment.
Two QTS Council meetings were held in 2001. Various strategies and policies were formulated by the QTS Council to facilitate both the development and administration of the Scheme.
QTS and Solar Project 2001

Organised by some of our closest working partners, Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), the Solar Project 2001 brought a meaningful end to the summer for 60 high school students who were selected to be this year's Solar Project Ambassadors.

They spent the summer attending the "Quality Life" training course offered by HKPC, which highlighted the important elements that contribute to the quality of life. They were also introduced to some quality certification programmes such as ISO 9000 and the QTS Scheme.

Solar Project Ambassadors attended the QTS Scheme briefing session organised by the BBTS Secretariat.

60 high school students were selected as Ambassadors of Solar Project 2001.
Over the summer the Solar Project Ambassadors visited the Ocean Empire Food Shop, a QTS organisation. This visit gave these young Ambassadors an opportunity to experience daily life in the real business world and to broaden their horizons by observing the operations of a traditional Chinese food shop being run in a style similar to that of a Western fast food chain.

The Solar Project 2001 concluded with the "Quality Living Project" competition. BBTS Executive Manager, Ms Victoria Luck, was a member of the judging panel and made valuable comments to each Ambassador about the project.
